Me and pops have always hunted unit 30 but The NMDGF decided not to give us 30 and we eneded up with our second choice which is unit 34, We have scouted the area around 4-5 times and seen some good bucks, My question is this. Since there was a hunt last week , Do this deer move to other areas when spooked and will they return after it calms down? or
Will these bucks migrate to other areas with no hunting pressure? And will the rut be in full swing this coming weekend?

Thanks in advance!

From what I have seen the last couple of days, the rut has pretty much not even started.
Not sure where in unit 34 you will be hunting but it's in my backyard so if you want to drop me a pm I'll try and give you some ideas.
I'll be headed out Friday for unit 23 on a private ranch hunt.

It was BAD hunt! We had 6-7 camps all within a mile. Hunted Curtis canyon near mayhill. Hunted hard in the back canyons for 4 days. Saw 2, 2x2 ,6 does, a herd of elk, turkeys and a skunk!

Decided not to kill the little fork and horns and let them live but i Know some of the other camps wont let that happen. ATVs all over the roads and ALOT of road hunters.

Sent ya a PM mtncat
